Why is my QR code not working?
A fast diagnostic order for codes that scan in the preview but fail on a poster, sticker, menu, screen, or phone.
Short answer
Start with the final physical piece. Confirm the destination, restore a dark code on a light background, preserve the clear margin, remove the logo, make the code larger, and test again on more than one phone.
Use this diagnostic order
Change one variable at a time so you know what actually fixed the scan.
1. Scan the clean preview
If the browser preview fails, check the encoded URL or shorten the content before touching the design.
2. Reset the design
Use dark modules on white, square proportions, no logo, and no effects. This separates data problems from styling problems.
3. Restore the quiet zone
Keep at least four empty modules around every side. Borders, photos, text, and crop marks must stay outside it.
4. Increase the final size
A dense code, long scan distance, soft print, glare, or a weak camera all require a larger code.
Check the material and setting
A perfect file can fail after production. Glossy laminate creates glare, folds break modules, curved packaging distorts the square, fabric moves, and a dim screen lowers contrast.
Print
Use a sharp SVG master, avoid scaling a screenshot, and inspect the proof for bleeding or broken squares.
Screens
Raise brightness, avoid reflections, and do not display the code too close to the edge of the screen.
Outdoor events
Test in sun and shade, from the real approach angle, with the exact sign and mounting surface.
Check what happens after recognition
Sometimes the camera recognizes the QR code correctly but the destination fails. Open the encoded URL directly, check for typos, confirm HTTPS, and test without an expired redirect or login-only page.

Why does the QR scan on screen but not after printing?
The printed code may be too small, soft, low-contrast, cropped, reflective, folded, or distorted. Test the final proof rather than relying on the source file.
Can a logo stop a QR code from scanning?
Yes. A large or badly placed logo can cover useful modules. Remove it first, then add back a small centred mark and test again.
Can an old QR code suddenly stop working?
A static QR pattern does not expire, but its encoded website, redirect, domain, Wi-Fi password, or other destination can change or stop working.
