Use BananaSplit with Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI assistants
Connect BananaSplit to Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, or Cursor, then just ask. Who still owes you from the trip? What did the flat spend on groceries this month? Are you and Alex square? Your assistant can add expenses, record payments, and set up the rent for you, too. And it only sees what you can see in BananaSplit — nothing more.
Things you can ask
Who still owes me money from the Lisbon trip?
Sam owes you €42 and Alex owes you €18. Everyone else is square.
Dinner was €60, I paid. Split it with Alex and Sam in Lisbon trip.
Done. Added Dinner, €60, paid by you, split three ways: €20 each.
Alex just sent me €20. Record it.
Recorded €20 from Alex. Alex now owes you €18.
Rent is €1,200 on the 1st of every month. Set it up in Flat 3B, split evenly.
Set up: Rent, €1,200 on the 1st of every month in Flat 3B, split between the four of you (€300 each).
Connect your assistant
The assistant will send you to BananaSplit to sign in and approve access.
Claude
On claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app, open Customize → Connectors.
Click + and choose Add custom connector.
Name it BananaSplit and paste in the address below.
Sign in to BananaSplit and approve access.
On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds BananaSplit once under Organization settings → Connectors. Then everyone connects their own BananaSplit account.
ChatGPT
On chatgpt.com, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
Go to Plugins, click +, name it BananaSplit, and paste in the address below.
If it asks how to sign in, choose OAuth. Then sign in to BananaSplit and approve access.
In a new chat, choose Developer mode from the + menu and pick BananaSplit.
On Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans, your workspace admin may need to turn on developer mode for you first.
Paste in the address below, then sign in to BananaSplit and approve access.
It works in Grok Bot, too.
Cursor
Open Cursor Settings.
Add a new server named BananaSplit and paste in the address below.
When Cursor opens BananaSplit, sign in and approve access.
Copy and paste this address if your assistant asks for it:

What can AI assistants do?
Just about anything you can do in BananaSplit yourself.
Balances: see what you owe, what you're owed, and who it's with.
Groups: find groups, see members and recent activity, and start new ones.
Expenses: add, edit, delete, and restore expenses, split equally or your way.
Payments: record settle-ups, and bring back one deleted by mistake.
Recurring expenses: set up, edit, pause, and remove things like rent and subscriptions.
Friends and currencies: look up people, currencies, and categories so names come out right.
Not yet: receipt photos, and editing or deleting payments. Use the app for those.
Hand it to an always-on agent
Some assistants now keep working after you close the laptop. Give one BananaSplit and it can keep an eye on the money for you, checking in only when it needs you.
Things to hand off:
When the energy bill lands in my email, add it to Flat 3B and split it evenly.
On the 2nd of every month, tell me who in Flat 3B still owes rent.
Every Sunday evening, send me where I stand across all my groups.
When the Lisbon trip ends, work out who pays whom and send me the list.
If anyone adds an expense over €100 in Flat 3B, let me know.
Grok Bot
Add BananaSplit at grok.com/connectors, as above, and your Bots can use it too. Message a Bot from your phone or desktop and it picks up where you left off. Grok Bot is in beta on SuperGrok and Cursor plans.
ChatGPT dots
Add BananaSplit in ChatGPT, as above, then give your dot access to it. Dots are on ChatGPT Pro (outside the EEA, UK, and Switzerland) and Business Premium.
Meta MuseComing soon
We're working on it. The steps will be right here as soon as BananaSplit works with Muse.
You stay in control
Your access, nothing more. Your assistant can only see what you can see in BananaSplit, and only do what you can do.
Nothing is gone for good. Deleted expenses and payments can be restored. Just ask.
Disconnect anytime. Remove BananaSplit from your assistant's connectors and it's cut off. Everything it added stays right where it left it.
For developers and other apps
This is our hosted MCP server, and it works with any app that supports MCP connectors. Point it at https://api.bananasplit.net/mcp and sign in. There's nothing to set up on our end.
Or let your agent do it. Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or any agent that can edit its own settings:
Add the BananaSplit MCP server to your MCP settings. Name: bananasplit. URL: https://api.bananasplit.net/mcp (Streamable HTTP, signs in with OAuth, no API key). Then tell me how to finish signing in.
Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http bananasplit https://api.bananasplit.net/mcp
VS Code: run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, choose HTTP, and paste in the address. Or add it to mcp.json:
Nope. It's included with every BananaSplit account. Your AI assistant may need a paid plan to add connectors, though.
Can my assistant see groups I'm not in?
No. It acts as you. If you can't see a group, expense, or friend in BananaSplit, neither can your assistant.
Should I use this or the BananaSplit CLI?
Use this in chat apps and editors. There's nothing to install. If your agent has a terminal, or you want scripts and JSON, the CLI does the same with the same account.
Can an agent do this on a schedule?
Yes. Always-on agents like Grok Bot and ChatGPT dots keep working while you're away. Ask one to add the energy bill when it lands in your email, or to send you your balances every Sunday. Connect BananaSplit to the assistant first, then give the agent access.
What if my assistant gets something wrong?
Everything it adds is a normal expense or payment, so you can fix it in the app, or ask it to. If a change seems to fail, have it check the group before trying again. Sometimes it already went through.
I have more than one BananaSplit account. Which one does it use?
The one you're signed in to when you approve access. To switch, disconnect and connect again.
Something isn't working. Who can help?
We can. Email [email protected] and tell us which assistant you're using and what you asked.
