A Settle Up alternative that reads the receipt for you

Settle Up keeps the group balanced. BananaSplit also turns receipts, PDF bills and payment screenshots into expenses you review, so nobody types the dinner in line by line.

What BananaSplit adds

  • •Snap It reads receipts, text PDFs and transaction screenshots, then drafts the expenses for you to review.
  • •Pull several expenses from one image, like a bank screenshot with a week of payments.
  • •An official MCP server and CLI let AI assistants add and check expenses for you.
  • •Banana Gold costs €1.99 per month or €19.99 per year.

Your group has plans. The expenses can keep up.

Keep adding expenses. Even on Free.

Coffee, taxis, groceries, another round. Add every expense as it happens, with no daily cap on expense entry on the free plan. Use equal shares, percentages, exact amounts, or individual items to match what your group actually owes.

The design gets out of the way

BananaSplit keeps the important things obvious: add an expense, see the balance, settle up. The interface is made to feel light and simple when your group is busy living the moment.

Bring your Splitwise expenses with you

Already have a group in Splitwise? Export its CSV and use the Splitwise import in BananaSplit. Review the import before confirming it, so switching does not mean typing every old expense again.

Friends can join the split before they join the app

Add friends as guests without asking them to download anything or create an account. Track their expenses and payments from day one. When they are ready, transfer their guest data to a new or existing BananaSplit account, keeping the history you built together.

A photo full of numbers. Expenses ready to review.

Snap It recognises receipts, spreadsheet images, and transaction screenshots. It extracts the expenses and can prepare several entries from one image. Review and edit them before saving. On receipts, aggregate quantities, duplicate items, or split an item between people.

Give payment reminders their own job

Send a payment reminder when it is time to settle up. Keep recurring rent, utilities, and subscriptions in the same group as everyday purchases, with balances that show who owes what.

Make the expense worth sharing

Use the expense image editor to turn a shared expense into an image with some personality. Send it to your group chat alongside the plans, photos, and everything else you share.

Free to start. Room to grow.

Adding expenses has no limit on Free. AI scans, recurring expenses, reminders, and history have separate plan limits.

Switching from Settle Up

Can I move my Settle Up group to BananaSplit?

BananaSplit imports Splitwise CSV files, not Settle Up exports. The simplest switch is to settle the old group, export it as a CSV from Settle Up for your records, and start the next one in BananaSplit.

Is BananaSplit cheaper than Settle Up Premium?

Banana Gold is €1.99 per month or €19.99 per year. On the US App Store, Settle Up lists individual Premium at $3.99 per month or $19.99 per year, plus Group Premium passes; prices vary by country. Both apps have a free plan.

Does Settle Up read receipts?

Settle Up Premium lets you attach receipt photos. We found no official mention of it reading the amounts. BananaSplit's Snap It reads receipts, text PDFs and transaction screenshots and drafts the expenses for you to review. Free includes 3 scans per month; Gold includes 100.

Do my friends need an account?

No. Add friends as guests and include them in expenses and payments. You can transfer their guest history when they join BananaSplit.

Is there a free Settle Up alternative?

Yes. BananaSplit Free includes unlimited expense entry, flexible splits, guests, balances and settlements on iPhone, Android and the web. Banana Gold (€1.99 per month or €19.99 per year) adds 100 AI scans per month, unlimited recurring expenses and reminders, and full history.
